Summer 2023 Round-up (So far!)

Despite the predictably British weather, HMS has kept super busy this summer yet again!
Resin Bound Paving, David Lloyd

We haven’t been able to find the time over the last couple of months for our monthly round-ups – so here we have compiled a digestible round-up for those interested to see some of the projects we have been getting on with throughout this busy, summer period.

Coventry Ring Road

At the beginning of June, the HMS installation crew started to work underneath the ring road at Junction 7 in Coventry! The works were completed (totaling 1800m²) using a resin bound surfacing due to its low-maintenance nature and permeable properties – reducing the cost undertaken by the local councils to keep the surface looking good for many years to come! The purpose of the project was to provide more direct walking and cycling routes for pedestrians to access the city centre for their daily commutes – this work formed part of the Council’s Local Air Quality Plan – for more information on the benefits gained through this work being completed, be sure to check out Coventry City Council’s website!

Morris Homes in St. Neots

After we had finished helping Coventry City Council smash their local air quality targets, we made the journey North to Wintringham. Morris Homes asked the HMS team if we could come in and help add the finishing touches to their new luxury housing development in St Neots – to which we gladly obliged! The installation crew laid resin bonded paving to shared access driveways across the entire site. We find that many housing developers we speak to often land on a resin bonded surfacing as the best approach to a luxury paving solution that doesn’t compromise on quality or safety in any capacity. With its slip-resistant, long-lasting, and low-maintenance finish – it is quickly becoming developers’ first choice! In a world that is becoming more environmentally aware, we think it is also important to note the environmentally friendly nature of this product – non-hazardous, high-performance resin coupled with natural aggregates, there really is no other product like it!

Hurst Homes, Derbyshire

With Morris Homes satisfied, the HMS installation crew was then off to Moorgreen, Derbyshire. Hurst Homes had requested that we come in and laid resin bound paving for one of their new housing projects! Resin bound paving is an amazing alternative to gravel & concrete (and resin bonded of course!). The biggest advantage resin bounded provides (rather than resin bonded or more traditional surfacing solutions) is that it is entirely porous and therefore complies with the government’s Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). As a result, HMS’s resin bound surfacing system is perfect for landscaping areas that are home to trees and foliage – it can also be effective in areas around water features and swimming pools!

For areas that are prone to standing water, or areas with poor mains drainage – look no further!

S Brown Paving

Staying in Derbyshire, the HMS installation crew continued their good work showcasing our best-in-class resin bound surfacing solution! We were at a residential home laying surfacing to a sloped driveway and garden path, in a Natural Buff. Resin bound was perfect for the job – as our client will tell you! Not only does it fit perfectly into a natural setting, but it resembles loose gravel with zero stone migration. Being a resin bound surface it is of course permeable, hard-wearing, and extremely low maintenance – but you already knew that by this point.

Shepherds Bush

Starting July off as strongly as we finished June – we despatched an installation crew to the big smoke to jump on a project in Shepherd’s Bush on behalf of DX Developments. Differing from one of our more common colours, the client requested a custom blend to give them the finish they were seeking! If you find yourself in Shepherd’s Bush be sure to look out for The Hawk’s Nest Bar – and let us know what you think of their choice! Here at HMS, you will find the largest range of resin bound aggregate in the Midlands. This means we can accommodate any specification you may have, whether you are a developer revamping a neglected area or a homeowner looking to makeover your outdoor space! Our resin bound surfacing can be bespoke-blended to match and compliment any surrounding environment – the more cynical amongst us can check out our website for proof!

Bovis Homes at Collingtree Park

We took a break from London and found ourselves somewhere a little closer to home, Northampton. Here, Bovis Homes had asked us to help them install suitable surfacing for all the footpaths around their new housing development in Collingtree Park. Being SUDS compliant, resin bound paving was the perfect choice to span across the entirety of this development. By allowing water to pass through there is no need to install additional drainage and the surface essentially replicates the natural environment – ensuring less waterway pollution and reducing the risk of flooding!

Rose Builders at Painters Place

From Northampton to Colchester – there is no rest for the wicked! Rose Builders asked us to come in and help install 1500m² at Painters Place, their new luxury housing development for the over 55’s. Resin bound surfacing was laid onto their Public Open Space footpaths (POS), communal landscaped areas, and a car park! Completely sealing the surface with our resin bound surfacing, we eliminated the worry of maintaining their external areas to keep them looking good. As mentioned in previous blogs, the most this type of surfacing needs to stay looking brand-new is a power wash every couple of years or so – and weeding is a thing of the past! Environmentally friendly, highly durable, and slip resistant … it never gets boring telling people that!

David Lloyd

David Lloyd has come to Rugby! On the 22nd of August, David Lloyd opened a brand-new fitness centre in Rugby, and like any sensible developer, they asked the HMS team to come in to help. As enticing as the spa and state-of-the-art facilities were, the exciting stuff (no, seriously!) was happening on the outside of this fantastic project! The HMS installation crew came in and laid resin bound paving to the entrance, garden, and spa area – a fitting touch for such a high-quality development. This first-class fitness centre is now adorned with a sleek and durable resin bound paving system that not only enhances the overall ambiance of the place but comes with a long list of functional benefits – don’t make me list them again!

Wet Pour, Nuneaton

Staying in the Midlands for this one, the HMS team had a slight change of place. Not only do we boast a huge variety of both resin bound, and resin bonded products – we also commonly lay a rubber crumb variant. The NWSL College in Nuneaton needed a surfacing solution that prioritised safety, something we could happily provide! Now, the children that attend their nursery can play and explore safely on a vibrant and durable surface – rain or shine! Known as EPDM Wet Pour, this surface comprises of two integral layers of rubber crumb and specialist polyurethane-based resins to create a safe level of impact absorption in varying thicknesses depending on the maximum fall height risk. Essentially, the higher the fall risk, the thicker the base surfacing material should be. Used mainly by clients across the construction sector, including homebuilders, local authorities, and commercial developers – EPDM surfacing conforms to British & European standards (BS 7188 and EN 1177) for complete peace of mind! This makes it the perfect surfacing for playgrounds, soft play areas, and spaces in and around garden play equipment, inside or out!

We’re happy to say it’s been another packed few months here for the HMS team! From helping local councils, luxury housing developers, and private clients – it has been a period of outstanding work by the HMS installation crews. Now, do be sure to check back in for our next blog, we try to spread helpful information about our resin bound and resin bonded surfaces – from projects we complete to maintaining your resin bound/bonded area!
