September saw the rewriting of the history books …

Last month saw Great Britain making the history books with the sad news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, our iconic queen and longest-reigning monarch. HMS joined the rest of the UK in a period of national morning, wondering if we’ll ever see another queen on the throne in our lifetime.
September Surfacing Projects

Out of respect for The Queen, we worked on fewer projects last month, but we did manage to complete Park View, which is a new housing development in Woodstock with Blenheim Estates and Pye Homes.

We were back at Park View in September to lay the final 950 metres of resin bound paving to the public open space footpaths, taking our total up to 1,900 metres.

‘Always building belonging’ is the aim of Blenheim Estates and is one of the many reasons why resin bound paving was chosen. Not only does the aggregate colour compliment Blenheim Palace, it also blends with the recently built new homes and the surrounding countryside.

Resin bound’s low maintenance, hard-wearing and slip-resistant features make it very appealing. However, the fact that it’s a permeable paving solution, which allows water to drain in much the same way as a natural surface (and therefore, SUDS compliant) corresponds with their aim of ‘Always building belonging’.

We often work on new housing developments due to the flexibility and seamless finish resin bound or bonded surfacing offers … and the fact it instantly elevates curb appeal!

EPDM Wet Pour Safety Surfacing at Pathways School in Barking

This was one of our favourite installations this month. The blue really ‘pops’ and looks great … the perfect surfacing choice for a special needs school in Barking.

Pathways School wanted to create an outdoor classroom to give pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties the opportunity to experience the benefits of being outdoors, while keeping them safe. Our EPDM Wet Pour Safety Surfacing was perfect for the job:

  • Seamless finish to prevent trip hazards
  • Risk assessed for height to keep pupils safe
  • Impact-absorbing to reduce injury should accidents happen
  • Low maintenance to ensure this surfacing looks great for years to come
  • Slip resistant to minimise mishaps
  • It can be used all year round.

In total, we installed 230 metres of 50mm safety surfacing in brilliant blue … and achieved a brilliant result!

Regeneration and pedestrianisation on St Georges Street, Leicester

Leicester City Council embarked on a regeneration and pedestrianisation scheme for St George’s Street in Leicester city centre to improve one of the main routes into the city from the cultural area of Leicester and the train station.

As part of this transformation, HMS was asked to install resin bonded and bound paving to the pedestrianised routes and rainwater gardens … and what a difference it’s made.

The improvements have made a massive improvement to the look and feel of the street, helping to create a much more attractive area for businesses and a safer, more inviting route for pedestrians.
