Temperatures soared in July, but that didn’t stop us!

July saw us complete various projects, but the ones that stand out for us, are the preventative highways maintenance work for Leicester City Council and the hard landscaping of some communal gardens, a car park and a cycle lane for a new housing development in Ashford, Kent.
July Resin Bound Projects

Hot, hot, hot … July saw some of the hottest temperatures with Tuesday, 19th July surpassing all records as the hottest day ever recorded in the UK!

Thank goodness some of the lads were on nights that week, banding for Leicester City Council! When temperatures reach these highs, we must stop laying resin bound or bonded surfacing during the day for one of two reasons:

  1. The safety of our teams working in such extreme heat
  2. The resin just simply dries too quickly!

July otherwise saw us complete various projects, but the ones that stand out for us, are the preventative highways maintenance work for Leicester City Council and the hard landscaping of some communal gardens, a car park and a cycle lane for a new housing development in Ashford, Kent.

For both projects, our teams were on site for two weeks. The weather was definitely on our side!

La Riviere Apartments, Ashford, Kent

La Riviere Apartments is a luxury residential development in Ashford comprising of 28 apartments with communal gardens, car parking and a cycle lane.

HMS was appointed to install resin bound paving to the footpaths, courtyards and seating areas in the communal gardens as well as to the car park and cycle lane demarcation.

The project saw us lay a total of 1,100 metres of resin bound surfacing where we used our Silver Grey aggregate for the communal gardens and car park and Spring Walk stone for the cycle lane. I think we can all agree, that the results look stunning!

Resin bound was the perfect decorative surfacing to choose for this project as its low maintenance and hard-wearing properties mean it will continue to look great with small upkeep costs. On top of this, resin bound surfacing is also extremely long-lasting – keeping its colour for its entire lifespan, which can be anything up to 25 years!

Preventative Highways Maintenance for Leicester City Council

We regularly fulfil Flexi®Band joint sealing for Leicester City Highways at Leicester City Council as part of their preventative maintenance programme. Work included sealing joints and cracks, plus pothole repairs to the carriageways throughout the city.

This was no exception and to be honest, came as a blessing as all work was carried out at night when it was much cooler! The second week of this project saw daytime temperatures hit 40.3oC, so our teams would have downed tools for the week if they were working during the day!

Local councils choose Flexi®Band as their go-to choice for local authority maintenance looking for a long-lasting, cost-effective solution for degrading work surfaces.

All-in-all, these two projects made an impression on the team! So if you’re looking for decorative surfacing for a new housing development or are a local council looking at preventative highways maintenance … you know who to call! You can contact us through the website or call 01858 881111.
