Not entirely dissimilar to last year, HMS 2021 Roundup has been rather eventful in respect of navigating restrictions and the added difficulty of serious material shortages within our industry as a whole.
The landscape of HMS and the RSD trade counter has looked quite different again this year, however, we have received excellent support from our suppliers and customers throughout. In turn, we have done our best to keep the supply of aggregates and consumables to our valued resin sales clients, and hope that 2022 sees a much-needed improvement in the logistics and manufacturing of some of our most valuable components.
Here at HMS even through this difficult period, we have done our absolute best to maintain our reputation as an excellent quality contractor, committed to delivering on time and on budget. We’ve [thankfully] still managed to complete some great projects this year. Continue reading HMS Roundup 2021 to find out more…
CIK – Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow
CIK contacted us on behalf of Corbyn Construction in relation to over 500m² of porous SUDS compliant Decra®Set resin bound paving to new apartment development in East London. Due to the contemporary design of the scheme, this possibly takes first place as the most awkward shape to measure this year, but equally looked very impressive once complete.
The covered triple height archways add drama to the shared space and are finished using a very modern pale gold natural aggregate throughout. Our product was also used to create contour and shaping throughout the multi-level space, and perfectly compliments the material used in other areas of the scheme.
McPhillips – Colmore Row, Birmingham
This large-scale city centre highway improvement scheme was completed to a tight deadline over a week of very cold night shifts in October, all needing to be completed ahead of the much-anticipated German Christmas Market.
Over 1,200m² of Type 1 epoxy based high friction surfacing, finished using natural 1-3mm graded, super-hard buff and grey coloured bauxite aggregates to ensure slip resistance and safety for all road users and pedestrians within this busy area of Birmingham city just outside Snow Hill train station in the heart of the business district.
Our HAPAS/BBA approved type 1 high friction surfacing uses the best quality, controlled and certificated materials. Along with trained operatives to install this key safety surfacing suitable for heavy vehicle use, pedestrians, and all other road users. Forming part of much wider regeneration, HMS are proud to be part of this extensive scheme.
Melrose Builders – Summercotes, Derby
Here at HMS we like a creative challenge, and this project in Derbyshire for Melrose Builders was definitely a break from the standard driveway routine. This large private yard was designed by the owner to include a corresponding natural resin bound red border to the whole of the perimeter, with three large multi-sized diamonds breaking up across the expanse.
Flanked throughout by a contrasting gold finish, the completed surfacing was strikingly original. Sharp lines were created using a combination of flexible and straight edge aluminium trim, with the whole project being completed by hand trowelling resin bound in 5 days.
This is just a snapshot of some of the schemes we’ve had the pleasure to deliver effectively despite the difficult conditions, and we will continue to work as hard as we can into 2022, when we’re confident of improvement for everyone.
We hope you have a good Christmas and stay safe with your families and friends over the festive period, and we can’t wait to see what’s happening in 2022!
