Got a question about resin bonded surfacing? We answer the most frequently asked questions.

How much does resin bonded surfacing cost?
It can be tricky to quote a cost per square metre for resin driveways as each project has completely unique considerations and specifications. Generally speaking though, projects would typically cost around £20.00 – £30.00 per square metre, based on supply and fit by HMS, depending on the size of the area, existing base material and quality, and type of aggregate finish.  We would encourage all prospective customers to contact us with their individual requirements, in order to offer a more accurate estimate.

How long does a resin bonded driveway last.
Resin bonded surfacing is a long-lasting and durable choice. While guarantees vary between 1 – 20 years, when properly installed and maintained, can last indefinitely.

Are resin driveways slippery?
Resin bonded surfacing offers excellent under-foot slip resistance, often to a much higher standard than normal tarmac or block paving. The system offers a high level of abrasion, meaning the likelihood of the surfacing becoming slippery is drastically reduced for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It’s a great option for wet or icy conditions, and can increase safety on sloped areas that may otherwise become hazardous during the winter months for example.

Can you jet wash a resin drive?
The short answer is yes – you can jet wash a resin surface such as a resin bonded driveway or patio… When jet washing any resin surface, care must be taken not to damage the area. Always ensure to follow manufacturer and installer aftercare guidance about maximum bar pressure and recommended settings when using a pressure washer on any of our resin-based surfacing systems. All of our resin systems can also be effectively treated with anti-fungal or anti-moss treatments and works well with de-icing products such as salts etc.

Do resin driveways need planning permission?
Normally if you are looking to refresh or replace your existing hard-standing with no major landscaping changes, planning permission is NOT required. It is advisable to check whether you are looking to surface over existing porous surfacing, as this may need to be maintained, in which case you may want to look into our SUDS compliant porous Decra®Set resin bound paving products.

How long does a resin driveway take to dry?
Our resin bonded paving is suitable for use after 6-8 hours for pedestrians and 16-24 hours for all small vehicles. For heavier vehicles, we recommend 24-48 hours to ensure the surface has completely cured. Curing times alter throughout the year as the product is affected by temperature and humidity – always consult your installer for information regarding when your surface will be safe to use without the risk of causing damage!

Are all resin driveways permeable?
Resin bonded paving is NON PERMEABLE, meaning that it will seal the surface it is laid to, often helping to preserve and protect the underlying tarmac or concrete for years to come! By contrast, our Decra®Set resin bound product is fully PERMEABLE and SUDS compliant, should this be required on your scheme, or a condition of planning for example
