Resin Preparation

Find out all you need to know about resin preparation and what to do before laying resin down in our latest blog.
Resin Preparation

HMS resin systems have been designed for ease of application and in most cases without the need for costly and time-consuming preparation work. But as with all things, prior preparation is key, and to ensure that our surfaces remain in great condition for years to come, they are best applied to a good quality, suitable base.

As market leaders, we offer a great range of outdoor resin surface options, so if you’re thinking of resin bound or resin bonded garden gravel you’ve found the right place. In addition, our products are also suitable for commercial and industrial use, and are approved by several high-profile clients including English Heritage, UK local authorities and a number of well-known national homebuilders.

Our resin bonded paving is quick to install and is the easiest system to apply to existing surfaces and levels. Average to good quality tarmac or concrete makes an excellent base material, and if not newly laid, can usually be repaired and made ready for application quickly and cheaply. Things to look out for include areas of standing water, cracks or damaged surfacing that ideally need to be patched up before the application of resin paving.

We offer you impartial advice in relation to the best way to prepare your existing surface, along with details of recommended good quality groundwork contractors if more in-depth work is required.

Once your base is prepared, cleaned and dried (and primed if applying to concrete) you’re ready to install your resin paving.

Our supply and fit installation team can expertly lay 200m² + per day, and your surface can be ready to use within 24 hours, including for use with vehicles. An excellent choice to refresh driveways, paths and other areas of hard standing and offering outstanding slip resistance, our Decra-Stone resin bonded paving is available in a wide range of colours to suit any project.

If a contemporary porous resin bound finish is your preference, you may wish to consider our SUDS compliant Decra-Set product. Although a little more preparation is usually involved to allow for the thickness of the material, existing sub-bases of driveways and patios can often be used, with a small amount of work to ensure long term durability of the finish. Hardcore, MOT or Type 1 bases can be used (such as those found under slabs and block paving) or if creating a new space, can be incorporated into the new design easily. Offering a completely porous surface, often meeting with planning conditions our resin bound paving is excellent for recreational spaces and vehicle use – with no migration of stone and ready to use in as little as 6-12 hours it’s the modern contemporary choice for domestic and commercial hard landscaping.

We’re just about to enter our peak laying season here at HMS as the best results usually achieved between April and October due to warmer and drier weather. Whether you’re looking for domestic or commercial supply and fit, or a DIY project, all information to get the best results are available in the resources section of the website.

All of our products are available to view and take away from our fantastic showroom based just 10 minutes from M1 junction 20, plus free resin samples available via our website.
