April successes!

April has been another great month for us, completing works from residential homes to applying finishing touches to housing developments!
Resin Bonded Paving

Take a look at what we’ve been up to:

Lower Stondon, Bedfordshire

The HMS crew began the month by installing high friction surfacing for a new Bloor Homes housing development in Bedfordshire.

High friction surfacing is some of the most important work we complete here at HMS, making our highways safer for road users and pedestrians alike! Its durable, grippy nature greatly reduces road accidents caused by skidding, slipping, and sliding vehicles. This type of surfacing works by combining an epoxy resin binder with bauxite aggregate, which can be applied hot or cold. Grip for motor vehicles is improved by creating numerous high-contact pressure points to reduce the chances of skidding dramatically.

Bloor Homes requested we completed this work on the entrance of their newest housing development, as they know the importance of keeping our highways safe! High friction surfacing isn’t just effective on entrances and exits however, it is commonly installed on junctions, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, sharp bends, and cycle or bus lanes!

As a team, we alone lay tens of thousands of metres every year to reduce braking distances and skidding – it is particularly effective in wet conditions!

Resin Bound Driveway, Leicestershire

This next job was a bit closer to home! The HMS team took a break from making our highways safer and instead helped transform a homeowner’s driveway. This resin bound driveway in Leicestershire was installed in a natural buff aggregate, as specified by our more than satisfied client!

We’re often asked if we are surprised at the rapidly increasing popularity of resin bound driveways, but with a huge variety of finishes alongside its hard-wearing and low-maintenance properties – it really doesn’t come as much of a surprise!

A resin bound driveway contains the best quality UV-stable binders and specially selected natural stone from all over Europe and across the UK, making it a first choice in porous paving solutions. With the aggregate being fully bound by the resin, it means the finished product leaves no loose stones while keeping its porous properties. Its ability to feel sturdy underfoot whilst increasing slip resistance means there is no competition when it’s compared to other surfacing finishes.

Being a premium product, don’t assume it comes laden with a premium price tag! We find clients are often pleasantly surprised when they find out just how affordable a resin bound finish can be and usually results in better value when compared to dated and traditional paving options!

With low to zero maintenance and a lifespan of at least 20 years, it really is no surprise homeowners, house builders, and developers nationwide are looking to this type of surfacing as their no.1 choice!

What’s more, if you see yourself as an avid DIYer then you can purchase Resin Bound Trade Kits from our sister company, RSD. With installation guides available on our website, you can save yourself over 40% by installing it yourself – it’s worth a look!

Morris Homes, Wintringham

A new week, a new housing development! This time, it is a Morris Homes project.

We sent one of the HMS installations crews out to complete a resin bonded shared access driveway, with an amber gold finish. This is just another example of HMS working closely with a national housing developer to offer a modern alternative to more traditional paving solutions.

Developers are tired of leaving vast open spaces of black tarmac, and frankly, we are too. That’s why here at HMS we have gone above and beyond to source some of the finest materials in Europe. With over 25 years of experience in paving solutions, we have acquired a vast range of colours, the ability to install on (almost) anything, and can offer super-fast curing times to minimise disruption to other works!

What’s most beneficial to house builders and developers is that resin bonded surfaces can be applied to large areas quickly, while still being completed to the highest of standards. It’s not just perfect for shared access driveways, but all types of hard landscaping such as footpaths and recreational spaces. Using the highest quality resins and naturally sourced specialist aggregate, our resin paving products can dramatically transform any project from the ordinary to the extraordinary!

Resin bound garden, Leicestershire

Towards the end of the month, we found ourselves at a residential home in Leicestershire.

Here one of the HMS installations crews completed resin bound surfaces, to a garden footpath, patio area and outdoor kitchen!

A silver-grey granite was chosen by the clients, and we have to say, it was a great choice! The durability of this type of surfacing coupled with the wide variety of colours and finishes makes it a versatile and hard to compete with surfacing solution, and as you can see from the photos, it is certainly a lot easier on the eye than more traditional paving methods.

Zero stone migration, porous and smooth finish yet non-slip underfoot, makes it the perfect choice for contemporary outdoor recreational spaces. These features also make it perfectly suitable for outdoor furniture, planters, and trees – as well as providing a safe outdoor playing surface for children!

As with external areas in residential homes, they are often low-impact areas, this means that resin bound aggregates can be laid at a shallower depth, thus making this type of surfacing even more affordable.

With prices starting from as little as £13 per m² for our most popular DIY packs, upgrading your path, patio or garden area is no longer an unattainable expense – it is easy and budget friendly. If you are interested in making this type of surfacing even more affordable, please do check our application guides on our website. Here it is broken down step-by-step to make it as easy as possible … happy landscaping!
