Kidbrooke Village is situated in the heart of London’s East End is one of the most substantial and prestigious residential and commercial developments to be undertaken in the wake of the 2012 Olympics. Costing an estimated 1 billion pounds, it is one of four Urban Villages being developed by Berkeley Homes. The site comprises luxury apartments and town houses which benefit from panoramic balconies, flanked by hard landscaping and modern rooftop gardens. A prime location for high quality inner-city living, with amenities on the door-step including several underground stations, Docklands Light Rail, a dedicated transport hub for Kidbrooke, a brand new Sainsbury’s, and much more planned throughout the course of the development including bars, restaurants, brasseries and retail.
HMS were contracted by CIK Construction on behalf of the main contractor, Groundworks, to complete several thousand square meters of both Decra™Set resin bound and Decra™Stone resin bonded decorative surfacing at the site, on an on-going basis. Both the bound and bonded surface dressings benefit from exceptionally low ongoing maintenance coupled with a modern yet sympathetic looking finish. Works included resin paving to private balconies, and substantial areas of footpath creating access through the contemporary rooftop gardens. After much deliberation as to which finish would best compliment both the modern architecture and softer open spaces, 6mm Barley Beach was rolled out across the entire project, giving an ultra-modern finish, balanced with a natural, golden buff colour.
This project is not without its challenges, including mobilizing materials and mixing equipment up to the roof gardens, including first, second and even third floor balconies before installation could begin. This coupled with a looming Christmas deadline, and the challenges presented by the weather at this time of year meant that the success of the entire project has been down to some very careful planning!
HMS have been working on this specialist project for over 12 months now, with considerable further installations programmed for the forthcoming financial year, with an eventual scheduled completion of Winter 2016. As the project gathers momentum, more private properties, large areas of public realm, and open green spaces will be developed to be utilized and enjoyed by the new community, all benefitting from hardwearing and contemporary Decra™Stone and Decra™Set resin bound and bonded surface dressings.
